Rekha Bassi


Rekha created The Gap Club in 2001 when faced with the challenge that every parent experiences of how to juggle work, family, childcare and life commitments in a balanced way ensuring her children were her natural priority but also wanted to succeed in her business for others to benefit too. Her remedy to the childcare conundrum was to create her own high quality home from home out of school group childcare provision, and so The Gap Club was born! Word of mouth recommendation and a persistent consistent drive for perfection has seen The Gap Club grow to what it is today.

Rekha is a passionate and strong supporter of children and young people feeling at ease, confident, happy, safe and secure with skilled practitioners by their side to encourage children to express their imagination and explore their curiosity at their own pace and individual need. She is proud to be a part of the journey of children becoming rounded independent young citizens.

It has been a privilege to work so closely with all our families and children over the years earning us the caption of being ‘More than just a Service’ by many.

She is highly skilled, qualified & experienced and enjoys sharing her knowledge of play and early years practices with all members of her team. She has over 30 years leadership and management experience and is qualified to Level 4 in Early Years.

Outside of work Rekha enjoys spending time with her family and friends, her four children and huge lovable dog as well as doing her bit for the community and charity work.

Fun Fact

Rekha loves music especially 80’s pop music and spending time with friends and family. She loves to give and help others complimenting her other passion – her medical background in pharmacy. She relishes her personal development journey and is always looking at ways to improve herself and be of service to others.

Natasha Majeed

General Manager

Natasha has worked for The Gap Club for over 12 years after joining the company in April 2008 as an unqualified Playworker while completing her degree in Music at Royal Holloway University. From the very beginning of her journey with the company, Natasha has always proactively supported the ethos, goals and aims of The Gap Club in particular the drive to provide high quality childcare that promotes and engages children to learn through play and be able to partake in new and exciting experiences.

Following the completion of her degree, Natasha then completed her Qualified Teacher Status and during this time she continued to work for the company as a Holiday Club Manager. Her drive to support children’s personalised learning and individually was apparent throughout her teacher training. She purposely chose to undertake a variety of different placements so that she could work with as broad a range of young people as possible to learn how to best support their needs. This married up nicely with The Gap Club and their focus on ensuring that their settings reflect the individual children within them, their interests and needs.

In 2011, on completion of her teacher training, Natasha joined The Gap Club on a full time basis as a senior manager and in 2014 following the return from her maternity leave, she became General Manager. During this time she completed her Level 3 in Playwork and her Level 6 Early Years Professional Status. Her qualifications and experience support her in providing a balanced view between the benefits of play, learning and education. Through her role as General Manager, she directly leads her team across all business entities with a view to always driving practice forward to continue to enhance the experiences for our children and ensure that the services we provide for our families meet their needs.

Outside of work Natasha enjoys spending time with her family, especially her 6 year old son, socialising with friends including the odd shopping trip and has recently started working on tracing back her family tree.

Fun Fact

Natasha has a love of music, can sing and can play various instruments including piano, clarinet and saxophone.

Alex Kear-Hill

Marketing Manager

Alex joined The Gap Club in October 2019 taking on the combined role of Marketing Manager and Club Supervisor. He is qualified in both Early Years and Playwork and was part of one of the first intake of students who completed Take Ten More for Play, one of the first recognised playworker qualifications which he completed in early 2000.

Alex’s experiences working with children and young people include playschemes, community events, soft play centre’s and many Breakfast, After School and Holiday Clubs. Alex is a believer in child centred play environments and the social value out of school childcare brings to families. ‘Gap is an outstanding play and child based provider, to find a provider that matched my belief in providing high quality Playwork was a career I could not refuse’.

As well as childcare, Alex previously ran his own business, one was a Playwork business and more recently events and entertainment. One of his biggest event successes was organising a free to enter firework display for over 7000 people. During this time his media and marketing skill base developed, combined with his HND in media his skill base in business development was a strength he wished to pursue further. Alex’s ethos in marketing and sales is that people need to be listened to so you can best develop the right principles of business model for your organisation. Working in childcare it is so important to gain feedback from parents and children. The fast pace of the 21st Century media tools with the growth of Facebook, twitter, google and mobile phones, whilst daunting is something we all live with now and The Gap Club is committed to developing these platforms whilst respecting safety and privacy of children and families.

Being a dad to a family of 5 children aged between 1 and 11. Alex really believes in the importance of family. He grew up in the Midlands and moved to Berkshire in 2017 and now lives in Bracknell. His hobbies include music, walking the dog and family holidays in North Devon.

Fun Fact

As well as being a Playworker, Alex is also a DJ and once ran the London Marathon!

Favourite thing

The quality of service for the children is the best I’ve seen in playwork. We have a great team of staff who love working with the kids.

Nel Punter

Finance Manager

Nel joined the company in 2011 as a playworker while also working at one of our local partnership schools. She quickly progressed to be Supervisor and has managed a number of our settings with her current Supervisor position being based at our setting in Wraysbury. During her time with The Gap Club she has completed her Level 3 in Childcare and joined the Head Office team in the role of Finance Manager with a particular focus on customer accounts and bookings.

Nel enjoys seeing the children grow into independent well rounded young people who know their own minds. She believes that while at The Gap Club, we can help children become more resilient, confident, caring and independent while also enabling and encouraging children to socialise with a variety of age groups, backgrounds and cultures. She strongly supports and believes that these early childhood experiences help children gain the confidence within themselves to achieve positive outcomes in the future.

Nel likes to get to know the families that she is working with so that she can use this knowledge to support the children within her care as much as possible. She is known for being a calming influence with the children and always looks at ways in which she can further experiences by taking the lead from the children.

Outside of work Nel enjoys reading, spending time with her family and friends from the community that she lives in, and her dogs. She also enjoys the occasional shopping trip especially prior to going on holiday!

Nel has 5 grandchildren including a set of twin girls.

Nel’s favourite thing about working at Gap: Nel loves being with the children and enjoys the teams that she works with.

Lucy Stevenson

Recruitment Manager

Lucy joined The Gap Club in 2009 and has worked for The Gap Club over a number of years in between having her two daughters. In 2018 she re-joined the Head Office team on a permanent basis as our Recruitment Manager and supporting senior member of staff across all of our clubs.

She has a Level 5 in Childhood Studies as well as a Level 2 in Counselling and has a keen interest in supporting children and young people’s mental wellbeing in particular. Lucy originally chose a career in childcare as she wanted to be involved in watching and supporting children grow and learn as individuals and so her qualifications support her in being well placed to do this. She enjoys the challenge and experience that working with children brings which is incredibly rewarding.

Lucy’s drive and determination to make a difference for children and young people, her longevity with The Gap Club and qualifications and experience ensure that she has a clear vision for what she is looking for within her recruitment role for the company. This supports the company in ensuring our staff are high quality practitioners who share the same vision, ethos and passion as we do as well as ensuring we are child centred at all time.

Outside of work Lucy enjoys yoga, horse riding and various other forms of exercise, cooking and baking, visiting her family in Yorkshire and spending time out and about with her daughters.

Fun Fact

Lucy used to be a lifeguard and her first ever job was riding race horses.

Lucy’s favourite thing about working at Gap: The comradery between the staff and the friendly atmosphere.
